What about Susan?

Mellow Mud Pottery was born in 1974, on a small back porch with a homemade kick wheel, some handmade tools, clay and a gas kiln. Susan had studied pottery at a private pottery studio in Northern California, the rest she learned through inspiration.

She had built a steady traditional pottery business, but looking for new direction. Living in a rural area surrounded by ponds. Susan and her husband Brent started the “Garden Theme.” We designed pieces for back yards and patios. We carved our niche into the clay world, exclusively from our own designs, and our love for nature.

Our pieces are handmade using a blend of rich, red California stoneware clays and a wide range of texture application. Our latest works are three-dimensional images of Sunmen, Garden ladies, geckos, quail, sunflowers, fish, wind chimes, turtles and southwest designs. These pieces are hand built and high fired.

Mellow Mud is striving to produce unique one of a kind pieces of art. Our home and studio is located in the Northern Sierras above Chico, California. All our work begins with a twenty-five pound block of clay and ends after hours of creative imagination.

Sincerely,
Susan Tate
